Loc Performance is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Gear Design Engineer to join our Product Development Department!

This opportunity is great for those who thrive under pressure and have a passion for gear design engineering.

The Senior Gear Design Engineer performs the fundamental engineering tasks, and detailed gearing systems associated with the design and development of mechanical systems to product requirements and specifications. Typical products include final drives, geared hubs, axles and custom gearbox applications.

Duties:Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for technical performance of assigned projects including adherence to the Loc Product Development process.

Accept design responsibility, authority and accountability of assigned product designs
Design of complex rotating machines such as gearboxes and transmission assemblies
Create detailed gearing solutions; Spur, helical, bevel and planetary gears.

Perform mechanical design analyses for assigned product design projects.

Develop plan for validating design to customer requirements.

Interaction with manufacturing engineering and quality to assure manufacturability of designed hardware.

Planning, execution and documentation of engineering analyses required for product design to assure robustness, reliability and performance requirements are met.

Constructs engineering artifacts for design reviews, including APQP design process documents: DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.
Support prototype fabrication.

Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

Ensure form, fit and function of complex mechanical system concepts.

Preparation support for design review meetings
Support the preparation of presentation material to convey analysis results and recommendations
Ability to support testing operations of developmental prototypes.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.

Minimum of 10 years work experience utilizing effective engineering tools for the design and development of dynamic mechanical systems.
Direct experience with CREO or similar engineering CAD tool for solid modeling and drawing creation.
Direct experience with KissSoft, LDP, Gleason, or Romax for gearing design and analysis.

Knowledge of AGMA and ISO design standards for gears.

Experience in manufacturing tools and processes for gearing.

Direct experience with ANSYS design analysis software or equivalent for performing FEA structural analyses.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Must understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin the analysis for static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, shock, and other forms of analysis as required for the design and development of complex mechanical systems.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA, DVP&R, CAD tools, FEA Structural Analysis, ISO/TS 16949, AGMA Standards.
